How much do we do that? If we all did that all the time, the world would be a different place. The thing is, to stand behind all three of those things puts you in a place of high integrity, and for some reason most of us aren't there.
It takes guts to be a person of integrity. But it also feels good. It's what we're here for - to be ourselves. Most of us spend our lives trying to be everyone else, whether we realize it or not. We spend our lives living up to others' ideas of what we should or shouldn't be, whether those others are parents, authority figures, the media, our friends, or society in general. But that is not living in integrity.
People admire people of integrity, even if they make them feel uncomfortable. In fact, often people of integrity, just by being themselves, do just that - make others feel uncomfortable. Why? Well, we're uncomfortable around integrity if we're not living in integrity ourselves. And that's a good thing, because it stretches us. It reminds us of what we're here for, who we are. Even more than that, being around a person of integrity reminds us that it is possible to be yourself and stand up for what you believe in. It inspires us.
So, my thought for today is this: Who are my gods, and am I honoring them? Who is in my life, and am I loving them? And what are my beliefs, and am I standing behind them?
I'm sure I can find one or two that I'm holding out on. Today, I will find the courage to honor them.
