Life has its ways of slowing us down when we need slowing down, and being sick is one of the best ways it does that. I've learned over the years that I can sit around and whine about it, or I can keep plugging on, or I can just give in and rest. Sitting around whining does no good to anyone, most especially me.
Plugging on is the American Way, and it is not wise. The problem with plugging on is that we aren't productive when we're feeling bad, and we use up the little energy we have that could be used to heal ourselves. The end result of that is that we feel worse and worse until we're forced to take a break, and at that point the healing takes longer and we've wasted all that time in between being only minimally productive.
The best response to not feeling good is to slow down, stop, and rest. Being sick is nature's way of having us take a break to just be. And when we allow ourselves to do that, we allow our bodies the chance to recuperate, to use the energy we have for healing. Being sick is nature's way of making sure we're taking care of ourselves, which we tend to forget to do. It's nature's way of reminding us to go easy on ourselves.
So today, I'm going easy on myself. This is certainly not one of my better blogs, but I'm posting it anyway, because I'm going easy on myself. I'm keeping my commitment to blog, and I'm also committing to taking care of me.
How are you taking care of you? How can you go easier on yourself today? The more we are able to do that on a daily basis, the better we handle the times when life slows us down against our will, so that eventually even those times become a smooth part of the flow of life, and even those times we are grateful for. Today, I am grateful for the reminder to take care of me. I invite you to join me.
