What did I whine about? Oh, you know, the things everyone does..."I'm so tired," "so-and-so always does that," "I don't like my hair today"....all those things we say to ourselves so often. And then there are the bigger ones, of course, where your life is miserable, you hate your job, etc. I've pretty much trained myself not to do those ones, but the little ones certainly had free reign in my head yesterday. Until I noticed them.
The problem with whining is it gives away our power and our responsibility. It's choosing to see the glass half full, and if that's what you see, that's all you see. If you're approaching your day from "I'm tired," then that's how you'll feel all day. Of course, you may be tired, but that's not the point. Telling yourself over and over "I'm tired" is basically saying "I don't want to be here." And that kind of thinking will affect every part of your day, from your work life to your relationships to all the decisions in between.
Try it today. Try paying attention to how many times you whine both in your head and verbally. If you're frustrated at how quickly and frequently you whine, be encouraged! You're paying attention to it, and that's the first step in slowing it down. When you catch yourself whining, just acknowledge it, say "wow!" if you have to (I did that many times yesterday), and move on.
Life is good!
